CITES Assistance for Luxury Fashion
Certain luxury and vintage fashion objects containing materials derived from protected species may be subject to CITES regulations.
Depending on the species, age, origin, destination and type of transaction, documentation or permits may be required for ownership, commercial use, import or export. The Fashion Appraiser prepares such dossiers with the same rigour as valuation work. Always discreet, substantiated and without promising more than is feasible.
How we can assist
A documented review of the object, its components and the probable species involved, together with examination of existing certificates, invoices, permits or provenance records and their evidential value.
Structured collection of age, origin, prior ownership, acquisition history and intended transaction, followed by preparation of a complete dossier and accurate support with official forms.
Correspondence prepared or handled on your behalf, with every document logged in your case file and ongoing guidance from the first assessment until a decision is received.
CITES services & fees
Every CITES matter begins with a case assessment. Further services are offered only once a case has been reviewed and accepted, so that no client pays for work that cannot responsibly be carried out.

Physical Examination
A physical examination is mandatory for a managed CITES application. For a standalone case assessment or application preparation, an examination may additionally be required when the material or relevant characteristics cannot be established with sufficient certainty from photographs. This is offered within an existing case file only.
Offered within your case file
Payment is for professional services rendered; it is not a payment for a permit and does not constitute an application.
How a CITES matter proceeds
Each stage is completed before the next is offered, so that you always know what has been established and what remains uncertain.
01
Case assessment
You order the case assessment and complete a secure intake with details, documentation and photographs of the object.
02
Review
The object, materials and intended transaction are reviewed and the applicable route is determined. Where photographs are insufficient, a physical examination may be required.
03
Written opinion
You receive a written opinion setting out the likely route, the documents required and whether the matter can responsibly proceed.
04
Acceptance
If the case can proceed, application preparation or a managed application is offered. If it cannot, this is stated plainly and no further fee is charged.
05
Preparation or managed handling
The dossier is prepared. For a managed application, your written authorisation is recorded before anything is handled on your behalf.
06
Decision
The application is followed up until the authority issues its decision. The decision itself rests solely with that authority.
Processing times are determined by the competent authorities and cannot be influenced or predicted. Official fees charged by authorities are separate from the fees stated above.
The Fashion Appraiser is not a government authority and cannot issue CITES permits or guarantee approval. Permits and official determinations are issued exclusively by the competent authorities.
